Businessperson of the year

JoAnne LaBounty has been named Minority Enterprise Development Person of the Year by the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

LaBounty runs the family-owned Spartanburg Meats Co. that employs about 20 people.

It is a meat processing company featuring the cooking and preparation of barbecue ribs, fully cooked in sauce and packaged by Cryovac. The meats are available in area grocery stores.

LaBounty began the business five years ago.

Her company is preparing 40,000 pounds of ribs to be distributed and served to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, who are being housed at the Palmetto Exposition Center in Greenville.

LaBounty will be honored at the chamber's dinner at Summitt Pointe on Oct. 27.
